What an FBX file is

FBX is what Autodesk tools, game engines and most asset stores exchange. It carries geometry, materials, rigs and animation, and it is heavy — which is exactly why opening one to check it should not mean launching Maya. This viewer renders the scene and plays the first animation clip if the file has one.

How to open an FBX file

  1. Open your FBX fileDrag it onto the viewer, or click to choose one. Your browser reads it — nothing is uploaded.
  2. Look at it properlyDrag to orbit, scroll to zoom. Advanced adds auto-rotate, a ground plane, wireframe and any background you like.
  3. Compare two versionsTurn on Compare and drop a second FBX file. The cameras lock together, so both move as one.
  4. Save what you seeSave PNG writes exactly the frame on screen, backdrop included, at twice the resolution.

Questions

Does it play animation?

Yes, if the file contains a clip — the first one plays automatically.

Textures are missing.

Embedded textures load. If the FBX references textures as separate files on disk, the browser has no way to reach them — re-export with media embedded.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. It is read and rendered by your own browser and never leaves your machine. You can disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded and the viewer still works.
