What a DAE file is

COLLADA is the XML interchange format that came before glTF, and a great deal of older library and CAD content is still stored in it. This viewer opens the scene, its materials and its hierarchy so you can check a file without installing anything.

How to open a DAE file

  1. Open your DAE fileDrag it onto the viewer, or click to choose one. Your browser reads it — nothing is uploaded.
  2. Look at it properlyDrag to orbit, scroll to zoom. Advanced adds auto-rotate, a ground plane, wireframe and any background you like.
  3. Compare two versionsTurn on Compare and drop a second DAE file. The cameras lock together, so both move as one.

Questions

Should I convert DAE to glTF?

For anything going on the web, yes — glTF and GLB load faster and render more consistently. DAE is best treated as an archive format.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. It is read and rendered by your own browser and never leaves your machine. You can disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded and the viewer still works.

Can I compare two files?

Yes — that is what Compare does. Load one on each side and the cameras lock together: rotate, pan or zoom one and the other follows exactly, which is the only reliable way to spot a change by eye.
